Orange County Courthouse Wedding in Hillsborough, NC

The Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough, NC is an excellent place to get married. While I love photographing courthouse weddings in Raleigh and Durham, the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough has a unique charm that will appeal to many couples. Unlike the modern, urban, and downtown feel of the courthouses in Raleigh & Durham, the Orange County Courthouse features century old brick buildings, stately columns, and massive oak trees older than the buildings themselves.

To get married at the Orange County Courthouse, you do need to make an appointment, which is easily achieved by calling the magistrate’s office at 919-644-4690 between 8 and 5, Monday-Friday. Once we arrive at your appointed time, you’ll visit with the magistrate inside for paperwork, and pay the small fee at the cashier’s office. Assuming good weather, you’ll be given the choice between an indoor or outdoor ceremony.

Outdoor ceremonies are one of the best - probably THE best - feature of getting married at the Orange County Courthouse. Especially on a sunny day with a Carolina blue sky, the location is as gorgeous as any in North Carolina. You’ll see in these photos that Karalyn & Nathan opted for an outdoor wedding ceremony, which also made for a great spot for family photos and wedding couple portraits.

On days the weather is less cooperative, you’ll be able to still have your ceremony inside in the beautiful courtroom. As an older and more spacious courthouse, the interior of the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough is my favorite of the three Triangle area courthouses (with Raleigh/Wake County a close second). As you can see, Joseph + Megan still had a beautiful ceremony location for their courthouse elopement in December 2022.

Whether you choose an outdoor or indoor ceremony, we will still be able to stroll the grounds of the courthouse and the nearby park for couple portraits after your ceremony. This special time with you as newlyweds is so fun! I love getting the chance to document your new marriage and capture all the joy that an Orange County Courthouse wedding can bring.
